| Daylily Rust Survey Results |
The earliest results from the rust survey are now available. I'm still trying to determine to best way to display results from the garden survey, and I still need more cultivar reports to improve the accuracy of the cultivar data. Still, I think there is enough data for a few cultivars that we can begin to see trends. Please realize that your own experience with any particular cultivar may vary. And of course, if you are able to keep rust out of your garden then these results may not affect your decision on what to grow. Not surprisingly, the first batch to be listed includes some very popular daylilies - greater distribution means more gardeners can submit reports. Being on the list doesn't mean a cultivar is good or bad, you will have to decide that for yourself given the details of the reports and your own situation.
For the sake of this survey, rust susceptibility is defined in terms of the garden value of infected cultivars. The garden value descriptions below are based on the appearance of rust infected cultivars in an untreated garden. Gardeners who have been actively treating rust with chemicals, were asked to report only the poorest performing cultivars which have the worst appearance relative to the others in their garden.
There have been 202 garden surveys making 2610 reports on 1864 different cultivars.
Cultivars with at least 3 reports, whether good or bad, are shown in the table below. The last four columns indicate the number of reports in each of the garden value categories.
